For more than twenty five years I have had a consuming interest in and passion for the study of motivation. I began my post graduate research by exploring factors which motivated fifth and sixth form students in educational institutions in Scotland . After working in the education field for many years, I returned to post graduate research and completed an M.Phil degree at Edinburgh University on the subject of motivation and values. At present I am completing a PhD which explores the idea of values as motivators.

Ten years ago I set up my own company and worked with various organisations as a trainer/consultant, providing training for several multinational companies such as Shell International, Roche Pharmaceuticals, The Royal Bank, and many voluntary organisations. This training helped people to identify their drives and preferred motivational styles in order to make appropriate career choices, make the most of their abilities and enhance their satisfaction, energy and sense of purpose. I have also undertaken training in psychotherapy and, with a colleague, have designed and marketed a post graduate counselling courser which was validated by both Queen Margaret University and BACP.
